    "Lets Eat, Randolph!" Seed Library The goal of the Turner Free Library's "Let's Eat, Randolph" Seed Library is to provide free and convenient opportunities for the Randolph community to learn about gardening and growing their own food. The Seed Library is now open and seeds are available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last! FAQs Available Seeds FAQs What is a Seed Library? A seed library is a seed distribution resource for community members who are interested in growing plants from seeds. The "Lets Eat, Randolph!" Seed Library provides community members with free seeds for plants that grow food. Who can use the Seed Library? Anyone can use the Seed Library! We welcome community members of all ages and skill levels. There is no cost to take seeds, but we ask that each household limit themselves to four seed packets per growing season. We appreciate everyone's understanding that this is a shared community service How does the Seed Library work? Community members are welcome to visit the Seed Library on the Main Floor during Turner Free Library's operating hours. Community members are welcome to choose up to four packets of seeds from the available selection at no cost. Supplies are limited and on a first come, first served basis. When should seeds be planted? There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer to this question, but a good place to start is the Farmer's Almanac 2023 Planting Guide for Randolph . This guide contains information about the best time to plant seeds, when to plant seeds directly in the ground, and when to transplant seedlings. Are there food gardening resources in multiple languages? ECHOcommunity provides food growing resources in multiple languages.     How do I get a library card? You'll need to apply in person with a picture ID and proof of your current address. You can also create a temporary e-card online to get immediate access to some of the library's digital services, but you will need to visit the library with a picture ID and proof of your current address to finish setting up your library account. What's my PIN? By default PINs are OCLN (all capital letters), but you can reset yours through your library account! First, go the OCLN catalog website, then click on the "log in" option located near the top right corner of the screen. At the bottom of the pop up box is a "forgot my PIN" option; click this to receive a PIN reset email! Is the Library giving out solar eclipse glasses? We will be! The Library will be giving out free solar eclipse glasses closer to the date of the next eclipse: April 8th, 2024. We are not taking sign ups at this time, but be sure to subscribe to our email newsletter to be the first to know about the distribution! Do you accept book donations? Yes, the Friends of the Turner Free Library are delighted to accept gently used books as well as DVDs (no VHS please). Donations can be dropped off in bins next to the Children's Help Desk at the library or in the book donation bin at the Zapustas Ice Arena (240 North Street). The Friends greatly appreciate your donations but are unable to to make pick ups. Can I print, photocopy, scan, or fax at the library? You absolutely can! We have a public printer release station and the charge for printing is $0.15 for black and white copies, or $0.50 for color copies. We have a copier that also functions as a scanner (to email or USB) located in the Children’s Room on the 1st Floor. Copy prices are $0.15 for black and white and $0.50 for color. Scanning is free of charge. We do have a fax machine that is self-service and requires a debit/credit card for use. The fee is $1.75 for the first page and $1 for each page after that to fax numbers within the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean. Do you have museum passes? We sure do! The Friends of the Turner Free Library generously sponsor discounted passes to a number of local organizations. Any adult with a OCLN card can reserve up to two passes each month. Reserve passes now. Where can I return my library materials? All library materials can be dropped off next to the back door in the metal book drop, or in the book drop slot next to the front door. My book is overdue, what will happen??? We've removed late fees on all traditional library items (books, DVDs, audiobooks, video games, etc) so as long as the book is owned by the Turner Free Library you won't have any late fees. Please note that specialty items such as mobile hotspots and chromebooks do still have late fees and that other OCLN libraries may charge fines on the items they own. What do your librarians do? We pick out all of the great materials you check out, we plan programs for all ages, we participate in outreach events throughout the community, we teach classes, we assist you in your many reading and technology endeavors, and we LOVE doing it! Do you have a public notary on staff? We don't, but there is a notary in the Town Manager's Office at Town Hall. Give them a call for more information at 781-961-0911. How many computers do you have? We currently have 8 public desktop computers located on the library's main floor as well as Chromebooks which can be checked out for home or in-library use on the main floor, Children's Room, and Teen Room. Desktop computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are equipped with Microsoft Office 2007, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and a PDF reader. Desktop computers are unable to play DVDs and do not have Adobe products installed on them. Please note that the desktop computers automatically shutdown 30 minutes before the library closes. How do I get a job at the Library? Keep an eye on the Town of Randolph's job page, any open positions at the Library will be posted there! Can I reserve one of the Library's program rooms? When not in use for Library programs, we make our program rooms available for outside reservations under certain conditions. For information about reservation fees and room availability, please review our policy and use our room reservation request tool! Do you have private study rooms? We have a 4-person acoustic Meeting Pod located on the library's main floor for quiet study, small group work, or other tasks which may not be easily accomplished in other areas of the library. The Meeting Pod can be reserved in 2-hour increments with your Turner Free Library card. What's the picture on the library's fiction and non-fiction bookshelves? Our adult fiction and non-fiction bookshelves feature the image of a map of Randolph in 1882! We currently feature the same map on our newest library cards. The original map is held at the Boston Public Library's Norman B. Leventhal Map Center. Do you have vending machines and is food allowed in the library? We have vending machines located on the 1st Floor near the Children’s vestibule. Snacks and beverages are allowed everywhere in the Library, but consuming meals, hot food, or food with a strong odor is not. Where are the Library's bathrooms located? Bathrooms are located on the 1st floor, across from the Children’s Help Desk, and on the 3rd floor. What are your hours and when do they change? The library's summer hours, which go into effect after Memorial Day, are: Monday-Wednesday, 9am-8pm and Thursday-Saturday, 9am to 5pm. ​ The library's winter hours, which go into effect after Labor Day, are: Monday-Thursday, 9am-8pm and Friday-Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
